The city of Toronto has released a new draft policy regarding the use of city parks by dogs. Specifically the new policy is looking to address the issue of off leash areas for dogs. During the week of June 4th, a number of public consultations were held across the city. A revised policy, based on these consultations will be presented to the Parks Committee meeting on July 4th and Metro Hall. Deputations will also be taken at this meeting. If the staff report and draft policy are accepted by the Park Committee, they will be presented to City Council on or about July 18th.

If you are interested in reading the current draft policy, it can be read at http://www.toronto.ca/parks/dogs.htm.

There is also an online survey in which you are invited to participate (http://wx.toronto.ca/inter/pfr/offleash.nsf/feedback?openform).

Some other groups that were at the public consultation distributed material. For background you might want to look at www.playatthepark.ca and www.parksfordogs.com.
