Hi! My name is Zack and I am coordinating the greenhouse on behalf of the Friends of Trinity Bellwoods Park.
There will be a spring cleaning of the Greenhouse next Saturday March 19 2016 from 10:00-2:00pm so that we can all get ready for seedlings, which some of us have already begun!
If anyone has plants in the greenhouse, please try to be there for the cleanup. If you cannot be there for the cleanup, please clearly label your
plants so we can get rid of abandoned pots, clean the floor and put your plants on your shelves.
During the Greenhouse Cleanup we will be focusing on:
-Emptying any pots that have soil, but no plants in them.
-Getting all plants on shelves.
-Diseased plants. This is a big one. We understand that some plants are trying to be healed of their infestations, but it is not fair to all the
other growers who are starting delicate baby seedlings to have sick plants in the greenhouse. Please take home sick plants or let's compost them and start some new seeds!
-Mice. There is a mouse (mice?) living in the greenhouse, it has been digging up seedlings and pooping everywhere! We are going to try to block mice entrances and clean the floor, shelves and all other surfaces. Please remove any plants or pots from the floor. The greenhouse is a small space and taking up floor space with plants makes it difficult to maneuver and also divide fairly and equally space between users.
There is a lot of interest in the Greenhouse this year, we are trying to compile a comprehensive list of users, figure out who has keys and how
best to divide the space. It is likely that users will be limited to one or two shelves each, which is approximately 3-6 seedling trays. We are
working on a plan to get more shelving and if you have any ideas, please let us know!
Lastly, there will be an upcoming meeting for all the Members of the Greenhouse on Wednesday March 30 6:00-8:00pm and we will send out another reminder email with an agenda closer to the date. Please respond with any items to add to the agenda, as this is our first Greenhouse meeting of the year, we want to start it off with all members input!
Have a warm weekend and happy planting. There's some greenhouse history under the 'greenhouse' tab. Hopefull will get some latest news up there during the season.
