Over 80 people participated in the Winter Tree Tour in our park this past Saturday.  The weather, which had been utterly bonechilling in the days leading up to the tour, relaxed and it was a balmy minus 2C.

The event, co-sponsored with our friends at LEAF, was led by arborist (and park neighbor) Mark Sherman who regularly works with LEAF leading their very popular tree tours. (Check them out -- they happen all over the city.)

After noticing a press scrum out by the icerink this afternoon, park neighbor Laura alerted us to the following icerink update.

The Toronto Star is reporting that Eleven outdoor rinks will remain open until March 16 thanks to corporation anteing up some private funds.

The city website is still reporting our Trinity Bellwoods Park icerink as closed, but the Toronto Star article is reporting it open.

Go skaters go!

The weather is supposed to be warming up on Saturday again with possible light snow for pretty visual effect.

Here's another plug for the upcoming winter tree tour that FoFTBP is co-presenting with LEAF in our park.  It will be led by park neighbor, certified arborist and regular LEAF tree-tour-leader Mark Sherman.

You can pre-register at LEAF,  but it's not required.

From LEAF:
Ever wanted to learn how to tell trees apart in the winter? Now’s your chance! Join us to learn about winter tree identification as we explore the diversity of trees in Trinity Bellwoods Park. Discover the way twigs, buds and bark (not to mention needles and cones!) can help you identify a tree. Learn some quick tricks that will help you identify some common urban trees. Learn about the work of Friends of Trinity Bellwoods Park and how you can join their Adopt A Tree program to care for one of these special trees.

We’ll start with a short presentation indoors and then head outside for a wintry walk through the park.  Be sure to dress warmly!
